Calf injury to keep 49ers’ Christian McCaffrey out for preseason

St Nick CLARA, Calif. – – Given his status as a veteran and one of the group’s best players, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey was generally improbable to play a lot, if by any means, in the preseason.

Assuming that there was an opportunity for that, in any case, it does not exist anymore. McCaffrey didn’t partake in that frame of mind in the wake of missing the group piece of drills Sunday due to a stressed calf. Mentor Kyle Shanahan said McCaffrey is probably going to miss a long time of training and is everything except sure to miss the group’s three preseason games.

“He did several days prior,” Shanahan said. “It’s OK. He didn’t pull it or anything, however you folks presumably won’t see him this preseason.”

A fourteen day course of events would give McCaffrey, the NFL’s prevailing Hostile Player of the Year, a lot of chance to get back to rehearse before the Sept. 9 season opener against the New York Planes on “Monday Night Football.” Falling off a season in which McCaffrey had a vocation high 417 contacts (counting end of the season games), the Niners have been giving him standard rest during this instructional course.

Under the ordinary timetable, McCaffrey was expected for a veteran’s three day weekend alongside end Scratch Bosa on Tuesday, yet in spite of the fact that Bosa watched practice from the sideline, McCaffrey was amidst recovery and out of view during the meeting.

In the initial long stretches of camp, McCaffrey noticed that instructional course is significant for him as a way to plan for the strong responsibility he takes on over a season.

“For my purposes, it’s put my body, psyche and soul in the best situation to play each snap,” McCaffrey said. “And afterward mentors became mentors, anything they believe is ideal, yet I know for me, I plan to play each snap so I’m all set.”

McCaffrey isn’t the main Niners running back managing injury. Elijah Mitchell has missed the beyond two practices in view of a stressed hamstring.

“He didn’t pull it, yet we’ll be protected with him,” Shanahan said. “Thus, he will miss presumably a week or thereabouts.”

Mitchell did some light running as an afterthought during Tuesday’s training close by one more harmed Niners running back, newbie Isaac Guerendo. Guerendo pulled his hamstring from the get-go in camp and has missed the majority of the group’s practices.

Without McCaffrey, Mitchell and Guerendo – – and with the preseason opener Saturday against the Tennessee Titans – – the Niners marked running back Matt Breida. Breida enjoyed his initial three seasons with the Niners after they got him as an undrafted free specialist in 2017.

Breida took part in Tuesday’s training with the Niners’ three other sound running backs: Jordan Bricklayer, Cody Schrader and Patrick Taylor Jr. To make room on the program, the Niners put recipient Malik Turner on harmed save.
